What is Löyly and what does it mean?

The term "Löyly" comes from the Finnish word for the steam and heat that is released when water is thrown onto hot stones, creating an intense humidity that engulfs occupants in a cocoon of warmth, cleansing the skin and opening pores, enhancing the detoxifying effects of the sauna.

In traditional Finnish culture, löyly is the very spirit of the sauna - the essence that makes it more than just a hot room, and a sensory and spiritual experience for the soul.

What do I need to bring with me?

Please bring appropriate swimwear, 2 towels (1 to sit on in the sauna, and 1 to dry yourself/get changed with). If you have your own sauna hat, you are welcome to bring one. Please turn up ready for your sauna session, ideally with your swimwear under your clothing or a dry-robe. Don't worry if this isn't possible, we do have changing facilities on site.

What should I wear to my session?

For all shared sauna sessions, appropriate swimwear must be worn throughout the session. For those that prefer to sauna 'au natural' we ask that you book a private sauna session, and must remain seated on your towel.

Where can I store my belongings during the session?

We have dedicated cubby-holes for the use of sauna & plunge pool guests, so you can store your belongings during your session. We have staff on site, however personal belongings are left at your own risk.

It's my first time using a sauna. Do you have any tips?

Listen to your body, don't stay in the sauna too long. If you start to feel dizzy or nauseous, come out of the sauna immediately and take some time to cool down and relax. Remember to stay hydrated as your body will be releasing water through sweat as part of the detox process.

After heating up in the sauna, if you feel confident in using the cold plunge, we ask that you take a quick shower before using the cold plunge pool.

If you haven't tried a cold plunge before, we recommend working up to it by having a cold shower first before attempting a dip in the plunge pool. When in the cold plunge, it is very important to control your breathing with slow, deep inhaling through the nose and long exhaling through the mouth. Start with short 1min plunge sessions, and increase duration once you have built up your resilience to the cold.

How many people can fit in the sauna?

The sauna has a max capacity of 8 persons for a private sauna session, and a max capacity of 6 persons for a shared sauna session.

How old do you have to be to use the sauna?

The sauna is only available for use by persons of 18 years and older.

Do you have parking?

Accepted Answer

We have two dedicated parking spaces for the sauna, and being situated on an industrial estate there is usually additional parking space adjacent to our building. There is also additional free street parking on the main road.
